A solution to astronomy's data problem
At some point in the future, AI will be as capable as humans for computer tasks. Over time, costs trend downwards.
Therefore, we will have widely deployable and plentiful experts that can accomplish any computer task.
What would you do with a thousand experts at your command?
Two clear ideas:
- AI research assistants
- AI integrated in data pipelines to automate complex analysis at scale, i.e. "AI-in-the-loop"
For the first time, we will have expert-level open-ended analysis on all available data.
This is a promising solution to the long-standing problem that the amount of collected data vastly outpaces any human capacity to analyze it.
